FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE
Develops new product and business development strategies involving technology. Manages projects to source and explore new business ideas and concepts, develop and launch new products, including pilot tests for product concepts. Supports a wide range of innovation initiatives aligned with USPS strategic growth plans.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Leads projects to develop and execute pilot tests for new offerings; measures revenue growth or gathers other business metrics (e.g., customer and third-party participation in programs) by collaborating with leadership and various teams to execute the plans.
2. Collects, analyzes, interprets, evaluates, and presents business metrics data, including statistics, charts, segmentation and consumer insights analysis.
3. Develops business ideas through ideation generation techniques, design and user-centered approaches to product development. Applies rapid product development and iterative innovation processes to create minimally viable products (MVPs).
4. Leads the analysis of market research data to identify emerging market trends and opportunities; develops recommendations for new technology-based solutions to address evolving business needs.
5. Provides innovation expertise across organization and provides assistance as the subject matter expert with concept assessment, value proposition development, and business model creation or other tasks as needed to develop team.
6. Develops business cases and specifications (e.g., need, timeframe, costs, impacts) for new products or business solutions that increase revenue or lower costs.
7. Partners with stakeholders and develops cross functional relationships to develop, test, launch and deliver new products and business solutions including concept and rationale, market opportunity, benefits and risks to the Postal Service, as well the strategy for successful implementation.
8. Develops and manages budgets in accordance with USPS policies and procedures. Controls costs and provides accurate financial based analysis to support new products and initiatives.
9. Prepares technical reports and delivers presentations on ongoing projects to executive management summarizing exploration findings to brief and receive guidance on project decisions.
10. Implements new products and solutions including understanding of the implications for logistics, technology, operations, process flows, hardware and software solutions by collaborating with Information Technology, Engineering, Operations and
Supply Management.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
1. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to solicit and exchange information with cross functional team members and deliver briefings and presentations for both internal and external audiences at various levels.
2. Ability to lead ideation generation and brainstorming sessions by including divergent points of view and knowledge of a design and a user- centered perspective.
3. Ability to conduct research, analyze business metric data, and synthesize findings (e.g., including statistics, charts, segmentation and consumer insights analysis) sufficient to identify and evaluate innovation ideas and support business cases.
4. Ability to evaluate the efficacy of existing and potential new products and services for meeting customer needs and generating revenue.
5. Ability to use Microsoft Office applications for project management and planning such as spreadsheets, word processing, presentation, project planning and other data tools to collect, organize and analyze information to develop products or processes.
6. Knowledge of new product and service development and assessment concepts and techniques including customer validation, design thinking, and human-centered design; industry frameworks for business assessment such as Lean Startup techniques; minimally viable products (MVPs); and Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats (SWOT) and competitive analysis.
