Job Description

Position Overview

A leading industrial fabrication and manufacturing organization specializing in advanced modular structures, energy solutions, and specialized systems is seeking a highly experienced and proactive Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Director. This critical leadership role is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all environmental, health, and safety programs and initiatives to ensure regulatory compliance, mitigate risks, and foster a strong safety culture across all operations. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in EHS leadership within complex industrial environments, particularly those involving heavy fabrication, energy storage systems, or similar high-risk operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS management systems, policies, and procedures in alignment with federal, state, and local regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.) and industry best practices.

  • Lead the strategic planning and execution of EHS programs, including risk assessments, hazard identification, incident investigation, emergency preparedness, and waste management.

  • Ensure full compliance with all environmental permits, licenses, and reporting requirements, overseeing environmental audits and sustainability initiatives.

  • Drive a strong safety culture through engaging training programs, proactive communication, and continuous improvement initiatives across all levels of the organization.

  • Conduct regular EHS audits, inspections, and assessments to identify non-compliance, unsafe conditions, and operational risks, implementing corrective actions effectively.

  • Investigate all incidents, near-misses, and accidents thoroughly to determine root causes and implement effective preventive measures.

  • Manage worker's compensation claims and collaborate with HR to ensure proper injury management and return-to-work programs.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, engineering, quality, and human resources to integrate EHS considerations into all business processes and projects, particularly new product development and facility modifications.

  • Monitor and analyze EHS performance metrics, preparing regular reports for senior leadership on compliance status, incident rates, and program effectiveness.

  • Stay abreast of new EHS regulations, industry trends, and technologies to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of safety and environmental stewardship.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive EHS experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership or directorial role within a heavy industrial, manufacturing, fabrication, or energy sector environment.

  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant federal, state, and local EHS regulations and standards.

  • Proven experience in developing, implementing, and managing robust EHS management systems (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001).

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all organizational levels.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.

  • Proficiency in EHS software and data management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar professional EHS certification.

  • Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) safety protocols and hazardous materials management.

  • Knowledge of international EHS regulations and standards.

  • Lean Six Sigma certification.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time, on-site role in a dynamic industrial manufacturing and fabrication environment.

  • Occasional travel may be required to other company sites or for training/conferences.

  • May involve exposure to manufacturing environments, including loud noises, industrial machinery, and various weather conditions during site inspections.
